About Bekah

Outside of her hours as school district secretary, Bekah can be found either with a camera in her hand, or a computer in her lap. With a passion for storytelling that just won’t quit, Bekah contributes to several online publications, alongside photographing her favorite people (and dogs) and working on her first novel.

At any given moment you could find her doodling plumbobs on her Snapchat selfies or chugging her third coffee of the morning out of a Luke’s Diner mug.

Who or what is your spirit animal?

The spirit of Leslie Knope inspires me every single day. Leslie always knows what she wants, and she works her hardest to achieve it, all with that goofy grin on her face. She loves hard, and that’s something I’ve always admired and related to in a person.

What was the defining moment you realized you were a ladygeek?

At 11 years old when I returned home after seeing the Fellowship of the Ring in theaters, and immediately went to my computer to look up anything and everything about Legolas Greenleaf. Swoon.

Do you have a signature color?

Style wise I wear lots of black because I’m super lazy, but personality and preference wise, it was all yellow. Yellow can be bright and cheery, or soft and sweet. And it goes with all of my favorite neutrals.

What always, without fail, makes you smile?

When people purposefully mispronounce Benedict Cumberbatch’s name in silly ways. Gets me everytime. As in, I’m sitting at work on my lunch break looking up examples and tears are streaming down my cheeks. Bumblebee Crumplebath. Ridiculous. Amazing. I love it.

Song you’re currently playing on repeat?

“Brave” by Sara Bareilles. That song never gets old.

Celebrity you dream of meeting?

I would do just about anything for an hour of drinking tea and talking storytelling with Peter Jackson.

What Hogwarts House are you in?

I’m a Hufflepuff, but not because I’m particularly skilled at finding things, because I’m really not. I would sooner lose something than find it.  But I like to think that I’m fair and kind, and with a love for food, animals, and gardens I hope that I’d fit right in.

Which fictional universes do you think would be the best and the worst to live in?

Like a true Potterhead, I’ve dreamt of magic, Hogwarts, and Diagon Alley for most of my life. Especially the post Voldy version of the universe. But I wouldn’t last one day in the world of Supernatural alongside the Winchesters. Love the show, but paranormal scares the living daylights out of me and they encounter the worst kinds.

What’s one of your pet peeves?

I absolutely hate waiting on people. I’ve been known to wait impatiently at the front door, eyes on the clock, until they arrive. It’s a fairly intense peeve.

What book/books have had a big impact on you as a person?

The Harry Potter series absolutely introduced me to the benefits of reading and appreciating fiction. From the first chapter on, I was hooked on to this magical form of escapism. Alongside all of the lessons on friendship, courage, and love, the Potter books taught me how to take more from a book than just the words on the page.

What’s one of your favorite memories?

When my younger brother and I rode the Jurassic Park ride at Universal Studios Florida three times in a row because there was no line. Heaven.
