Headcanon Hits: Samwise Gamgee

According to Urban Dictionary, headcanon can be defined as “a particular belief which has not been used in the universe of whatever program or story they follow, but seems to make sense to that particular individual.” At Fanspeak Files, our Headcanon Hits are songs that we feel fit a particular story or traits of the characters that we love. As we come across amazing figures from our favorite stories, these characters can become role models that teach us incredibly valuable lessons. In this case, Samwise Gamgee was one of the first literary characters that I felt strong admiration for while reading The Lord of the Rings. J.R.R. Tolkien considered Sam the “chief hero” of the story because he was a common person who showed uncommon bravery and loyalty in the face of adversity.

Historians believe the development of Sam’s character was likely inspired by the incredible dedication of Tolkien’s fellow servicemen in World War I. Samwise Gamgee can teach us so much about being a loving and supportive friend, even in the darkest of places. Our first Headcanon Hits playlist celebrates songs that are reminiscent of Sam’s steadfast loyalty, unwavering friendship, unsinkable hope, and special ability to shine his light when things get bleak. We hope you enjoy!
