Happy International Fanworks Day!

February 15, 2016 marks the inaugural International Fanworks Day, celebrating fandom and the art it inspires around the world.

According to it’s creator, the Organization for Transformative Works, today is “a day to promote fan creativity in all of its forms,” something we try to do on a daily basis whether through publishing on the site or commenting on other fans’ work posted online.

Though we didn’t know it, Kaitlin and I actually started Fanspeak Files years ago, when we began sending each other bits and pieces of fan fiction, and editing together fan videos after ripping our favorite films into Windows Movie Maker.

Fanwork is a treasure to those who have a true passion for the stories that make a difference in our lives, and I love that we officially have a day to publicly acknowledge the skill and love that goes into every piece.

Reach out to a fanwork creator today, and encourage them to keep bringing their fandoms to life.  And for all of you out there doing just that, thank you for entertaining and inspiring us with every fan fiction, fan film, fan song, and fan posting. You’re making our fandom dreams come true, and we hope we can do the same for you.
